Recommended by Lonely Planet,  OR2K restaurant has built its reputation on fresh and delicious Asian fusion vegetarian cuisine and its comfortable, funky atmosphere.

Iris Ahuva and Addie Loebinger  in 2000 and opened OR2K with Krishna and Arjun. The team created OR2K’s special and inviting environment, its art and interior decoration.

Walk in and find yourself in a place where tantalizing smells, soul-warming beverages, and WiFi service combine to provide your home away from home.  Comfortable seating, great music and a lively décor highlighted by original paintings make OR2K an unforgettable experience.

GVN Review: OR2K is one of the most inspiring places to be in Thamel. The delicious middle eastern food includes the best falafel and humus in town. The management is a sympathetic one, with a vision for a better planet, starting in good old Thamel. The interior design is smashing, with psychedelic paintings, lots of rugs and good music. By the way, the deserts are beyond words!

Yeok Teck

Address: Bhanimandal, Ekantakuna, Lalitpur Ward 4

Phone nr: (01) 554-8930

Opening hours: 11 am-3.30 pm, 5.30-8 pm (Tuesday 11 am-7 pm)

Menu: Vegan, Chinese

Specialities: Mock meat dishes, take away food

GVN review: Yeok Teck is a tucked away restaurant in Patan which deserves to be put on the restaurant map immediatelt. It has an excellent choice of elaborate dishes with choices of mock meats and vegetables. Unfortunately the interior design is a rather sad one. Someone should help the friendly management to turn this place into a hip, contemporary restaurant!

Rabsel Garden Restaurant (at Shechen Guesthouse, Boudha)

Address: Boudha, a 5 minute walk from the Boudha Circle

Phone nr : (01) 44798009

Opening hours: 7 am-10 pm

Menu: Eatern, Western

Specialities: Home made spelt bread, mock meat, tofu dishes, no use of MSG

Shechen Guesthouse’s garden restaurant and café is set in a covered veranda, as well as in the green courtyard, and offers an appetizing variety of freshly prepared vegetarian dishes, including home-made pasta and rice dishes, pies, quiches, lasagnes, traditional Tibetan and Nepali dishes, organic spelt bread, fresh fruit salads, homemade yogurt, and peanut butter. Rabsel offers a wide variety of beverages including cold drinks, teas, lassis, filtered coffee and delicious masala chai.

GVN review: In Boudha there is no better place to enjoy veggie food than Rabsel. Here you can try mock mutton and fish curry, swiss rosti, tofu thukpa and various wraps and pastas while listening to the birds. The place is popular with dharma students and families. A place to return to, over and over again. Finding the place by car is not easy. You will need to park inside the Shechen Monastery.

The Saturday Cafe

Address: Boudha, inside Boudha Circle

Phone nr : (01) 2073157

Opening hours: 7 am-9 pm

Menu: Eatern, Western

Specialities: Bakery products, spinach momos

The Saturday Cafe is planning to move but for now  treats you to a great view of Boudha, and see the dwindling flow of worshippers and tourists walking around the temple. The multi storey place includes a bakery, fashion shop and roof top restaurant. This vegetarian establishment is “dry” and does not serve alcohol, but allows it.

GVN review: Sadly we got off on a wrong footing, as instead of a Latte we were served a glass of milk. The apple cake was not as tasty as it looked. According to this review the pakodas are good, mushroom momos tasty, but the paneer saag does not have enough salt. The veggie pizza seems a winner.

Loving Heart Restaurantaaaq

This might very well be Nepal’s first vegan restaurant! I serves anything under the sun it seems, from pasta and momos, deserts to hot dishes such as filled bitter gourd , also dubbed as vegan fish. Try it out!
